about kicking a bad habit, getting into better shape, etc. But we at VVARC would like to see
some resolutions concerning our hobby and our Club. Here is a list to serve as a guide
for your consideration: 1.
Support the Club by paying
your dues for 2007. 2.
Support the Club by coming
to meetings and events.
By sharing your 3.
Support the Club by volunteering
to help a little. Ideas: Participate in 4.
Support the Club by
bringing along a fellow HAM, to help the Club 5.
Support our hobby by
reminding others of the service we provide Christmas Party There were about 30 people at the Club Christmas party last
month and a good time was had by all. After a thank you to Jonathan
McDonald, Craig Ebright, Nick Lamb, and Sandra DeWeert for serving as club officers in 2006 and the
unanimous election of new officers, it was time for the fun gift exchange.
There were enough door prizes, big and small, for everyone to get one. Thanks to all who participated. If you missed it this year, make a
note that this is one club event you should really plan on attending. A way to Support the Troops Go to this web site: www.letssaythanks.com. Pick out a thank you card and it will be sent to a soldier
that is currently serving in Radio In
your shacks you must all get around And
be sure your antenna to ground Or
a shock, be aware, Could
curl up your hair And the radio soon heaven bound.
Limericks can be just a bit “off color” and are
usually “silly.” All have the same rhyme pattern of
the example above. (There
once was a lady from Challenge: We are going to try to have a new limerick
in all 12 issues this year, just for fun. If you would like to try your hand
at making one up, it would be welcomed. We don’t always get the exact
count on all lines, but close enough to make the point. We did this activity a decade or so
back, and did have a few participants. So, sharpen your wit and your
pencil and write one.
E-mail to A page in Club’s
History from September 1985 Spectrum “The August meeting was one of our more interesting ones
in that it was Home Brew Night. The Business portion was mercifully
short and each of the entrants was given three minutes to promote their
project. There
is some fine talent in this club, as evidenced by the craftsmanship and
ingenuity that went into some of the entries. Our winners, who received $10.00 each were Rod, N6LCI, Homebrew 6 meter amp. Jim, N5COT,
for Heathkit antenna tuner, and Tom, K6EPS, Kluge
category for his RTTY tuner for the Commodore computer. Congratulations to the winners and
thanks to all who participated. During the meeting, the fact that the Club needs to become more
involved in community affairs was brought up. In that light, two possible events
were brought forward for consideration. The first was the possibility of
providing amateur television (ATV) coverage of the POW WOW Days parades for
one of the local nursing homes. The second was the annual
“Talk with Santa by Ham Radio” event which
is staged for area children in the hospital. Note: We’ll
display this old newsletter at the Jan. meeting, just for fun. ARLB027 “Omnibus” Amateur Radio
Report and Order took effect December 15th,
2006. It
includes a significant expansion of the 75 meters phone band. On 40 meters,
Extra and Advanced HAMs will be able to operate
phone beginning at 7125 kHZ, while Generals start
at 7175 kHz. The
top of the CW/RTTY/Digital band will be 7125 kHz, although CW is allowed on
the entire band. There
are no changes to 20 meters. On 15 meters, the General phone band
now starts at 21275 kHz.
On
10 meters, Novice and Technician plus licensees can operate CW/RTTY/Digital
from 28000 kHz to 28200kHz.
In addition, they can do CW only on the same frequencies as
other licensees on the 80, 40, and 15 meter bands:
3525 -3600 kHz; 7025-7125 kHz and 21025-21200 kHz.
